I badgered my way into UX.
I'm Louis, a senior product designer and researcher. I got here by being relentless about a job I wanted, and I have designed for B2B, B2C, and SaaS products ever since.
How I got into UX
I found UX in 2019, at a startup selling virtual events. The team was new, with no tools and no established process, which turned out to be the right place to learn the basics by applying them. I looked for problems I could solve with what I had, mostly Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms, and shipped small fixes for my team.
A few months in, the company brought in a dedicated UX team. I used every excuse to get near them. I badgered my way into their daily standup, and a while later I uncovered a large issue they had not caught. I presented what I found, and they asked me to join. That is where the career started, and I have been designing for software ever since.
Today I work as a senior product designer and researcher. I specialize in design systems and lean on user research to make decisions, most recently modernizing tools inside Neos, a legal case-management platform used by thousands of firms.
Outside of work
I take food seriously. I worked as a professional French baker, making croissants, baguettes, and other sweets at a French bistro, and I ran a small business making raw, vegan, gluten-free pastries.
I also cycle and work on bikes. I'm an amateur mechanic and have built several from bare frames. I raced for a bit, then decided I would rather be a commuter and a mechanic than a proper athlete.
And I have a dog, Fibi, an eight-pound Shih-tzu who may as well be my furry daughter. She has a backpack for riding along while I cycle, and a cap to keep the sun out of her eyes. I looked for goggles too, but her snout was too small to fit any.
